The Purity of Chevillon at a DRAMATIC Discount...

"In a word, terrific."
2008 Chevillon Nuits-St-George
1er Cru Les Perrieres

Of course, focusing just on the price does a horrible disservice to the wine, which comes from one of the great insider producers of Burgundy.

In fact, at this point it seems safe enough to write that Chevillon is on the short-list of insider producers, right there with Angerville, Bertheau, Lafarge and Mugneret-Gibourg, to name just a few.

There is little doubt that Chevillon is making the greatest Nuits-St-Georges out there; wines that are textured and dark with fortress-like structure and just insane purity.

And because Nuits-St-Georges has always been a bit overshadowed by the other communes of the Côte de Nuits, even the regular pricing for Chevillon tends to represent a pretty serious value.

Today, however, we offer a single parcel we found trading at about 30% below the regular pricing. Even in the monstrous July heat, we expect this offer to make a stir.

Therefore, this offer is only going out to a targeted list of Burgundy supporters; still, we expect a quick sell-out. Please give us your maximum request and we will allocate accordingly!

As we've written before, Chevillon made magic with the 2008 vintage - or was it just that the 2008 vintage, with all its rigor and thrust, was the perfect foil for a producer with Chevillon's style? Across the board, the wines flaunt Chevillon's trademark depth and texture, the dark fruit and soil- and mineral-infused mid-palates. Yet what 2008 offered these wines was the gift of tremendous clarity, a really inspiring brightness and lift.

Les Perrieres is located in the prime section of Nuits-St.-Georges, in the southern part of the commune, very close to the grandest sites of the village including Les St. Georges, Pruliers, Cailles and Vaucrains.

Les Perrieres sits a bit higher up on the slope, and as such, it tends to be a bit finer than many of its neighbors. One doesn't quite get the fullness of Les St. Georges or Vaucrains, but one gains in finesse, in delineation, in brightness and clarity. Burghound's note, below, alludes to as much.

That said, Chevillon's wines, all of them, are famous for their ageability. These are meaty 1er Crus that can outlive many Grand Crus - the Perrieres should easily improve over the next decade and longer. For this reason, to say nothing of the pricing today, consider the 6-pack!
