About This WineHeinen writes that Eberhard von Kunow was young in 1979, so the wines we are dealing with were likely made by his father, though possibly made by him. They are the 6th generation after secularization; the estate was an "Abteilhof" for Kloster St. Maximin in Trier. The cellar here was dug by or for the monks and dates back some 800 years, which is cool as hell. Everything was aged in 100% old Fuders. All the wines and winemaking were very traditional. Pigott says that Eberhard von Kunow made some of the ripest and juiciest wines of the Saar. Rudolf Knoll offers a completely contrary opinon around the same time, saying that everything was done in Fuder with late bottling and that they offer "lean, steely, tart white wines with pronounced, sometimes aggressive acidity." Whichever is true, it's hard not to think these would be excellent. Conditions look to be fine though perhaps not great. One has a slightly protruding capsule. The fills on both bottles are about the same, they are fine if, again, not superb. The colors, however, look very good. One bottle has a ripped label.
