About This Wine

Willi Haag is a very respected middle Mosel estate; the 1971 vintage is one of the absolute top, top vintages. Note that until the 1980s, any Eiswein (which is to say a wine made from grapes naturally frozen on the vine) had to include the related Pradikat. The question was, essentially, were the grapes frozen at the Spatlese, Auslese or even Beerenauslese level? This wine, therefore, was at the Auslese level when the grapes were frozen; in other words, this is a powerful Eiswein. These bottles look to be in fine shape - both labels are dirty and ripped, but both are legible. The two things of note are those damn crazy plastic capsules - ug . You'll note in the picture one bottle has a low fill; this bottle has been discounted.
