About This Wine

Josefinengrund and Marienhof are the prestige estates of the Reh family, whose company purchased the importer/shipper Kendermann in 1992, creating the largest privately held wine producer in Germany. So there's that. They also purchased the von Kesselstatt estate in 1978. Given their prominence through the mid- and later-20th century, it is no surprise that both Josefinengrund and Marienhof are well represented in this collection. It's impossible to really know how many hectares they managed or how many additional growers they may have purchased fruit from. While we do know the Josefinengrund and Marienhof estates were considered their prestige wines, it's hard to know exactly what this meant in terms of farming and winemaking. It is unlikely that any of these wines will be revelations for those with much experience with older Mosel wine. On the other hand, we have opened a few wines from both these estates and they are lovely little snapshots of the 1970s. And the value is, well, obvious.
