2010 Clos Rougeard Saumur Blanc Brézé

Posted by Ian McFadden

Out of Rougeard's incredible and long-lived lineup, the way that Brézé ages is amazing.

The 2010 Brézé is one of the most utterly brilliant vintages of the wine that I've tasted.

There's concentration, pure mineral expression, and verve. It's pretty much a perfect combination. The wine possesses a radiant, glowing acidity with finely etched detail.

This is an example of the great 2010 Loire vintage taken to an unparalleled level. Rougeard produces, without a doubt, the most aristocratic wines of the Loire. The 2010 Brézé really underscores how much class and refinement Rougeard brings to the table. It is astonishing.

Brézé is a legendary site praised throughout the centuries. It is a higher elevation site that is defined by its tuffeau soils, a chalky limestone. What results from Brézé is some of the most refined, complete, and mineral expressions of the Chenin Blanc grape. Rougeard's example is other-worldly.

Before closing, I should warn you that the quantity available is simply tiny. This is one of the absolute greats of a historic domaine and deserves to be placed on the world stage.
