Coche-Dury's Meursault may very well be the greatest village wine on earth. There are Grand Crus that it puts to shame.
Chevalières is a tension-filled, elegant, and incredibly precise white Burgundy. It has no trouble competing with the top 1er Crus.
The 2021 Meursault is very impressive. It's lifted and rich with a tactile minerality. Stylistically, Ballot-Millot falls between the reductive style of Coche and Roulot and the voluptuous, oily style of old-school Meursault producers.
The Boisson family makes Meursault exactly as we like it: intensely mineral, nervy, and with perfectly-judged richness.
The Grands Charrons is always one of the high points of the lineup.
Lafon has never been better. Along with Roulot and Coche-Dury, Lafon is the standard-bearer of Meursault. His 2017s show this benchmark in top form.
You'd have to look towards Coche and Roulot. In recent vintages, it's become clear that Lafon is at the top of his game.
Burgundy is full of quirky overachieving wines that cruise under-the-radar. Fichet's Gruyaches is one of them.
Germain's 2017 collection is brilliant.
Today, we're happy to offer one of the top wines of the collection, the Meursault 1er Cru Charmes.
Henri Germain's Meursaults may cruise under the radar, but they are some of the most exciting examples of the appellation.
Lafon's 2017 Porusots is epic.
The wine is a finely etched and tension-filled powerhouse.
In 2017, Roulot took things to another level. The collection dazzles, reaching a point that flirts with perfection.
If 2014 represented a breakthrough vintage for Ballot Millot, 2017 cements just how important this domaine is destined to become in Burgundy. For us, the outrageous quality of Ballot Millot's 2017 shines brightest at the lower end. Their Perrières and other Meursault 1er Crus are great, but at the villages level, the quality is shocking.
The Boisson family makes Meursault exactly as we like it: intensely mineral, nervy, and with perfectly-judged richness. The Grands Charrons is always one of the high points of the lineup.
Roulot is producing some of the most riveting and mineral-driven expressions of Chardonnay on the planet. In 2017, the domaine takes things to another level. The collection dazzles reaching a point that flirts with perfection. They are clear, balanced and precise.
The 1er Cru Perrières is holy ground for Chardonnay. Meursault doesn’t have any Grand Crus, but there’s no doubt that Perrières can rival Grand Crus from other villages.
With each vintage, Heitz-Lochardet seems to go from strength to strength. The 2017s are jaw-dropping.
There's nothing like the wines of Coche-Dury. They exist on a plane of their own. Coche's wines work on a very elite level, and you don't need to look far up the hierarchy to witness undeniable proof of this.
Roulot produced simply magical 2013s. Roulot's work with Chardonnay is on another plane. No one renders the grape with such a riveting expression - razor sharp, indisputably noble, and emphatically mineral.
It's been fun to watch Heitz-Lochardet start to really take off. It seems like everyone I give a bottle to comes back wanting a half-dozen more.
Lafon continues to go from strength to strength. His 2014s are breathtaking.
We've been huge fans of Génot-Boulanger's recent vintages, but their 2014s demand the attention of a larger audience. The wines are a pitch-perfect expression of the vintage, with amazing concentration, clarity and harmony. The lineup perfectly captures all of the precision and lifted elegance that made 2014 a home run for White Burgs.
This is one of those emails that I write with trepidation.
Ballot Millot has been amassing vineyards in Burgundy since the 17th Century. 2014 represents a breakout vintage for the domaine.
