0.80ha: Go-To White Burgundy:
2017 Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages Blanc

Posted by Ian McFadden

If you asked Crush's staff what their favorite affordable white Burgundy is, Fornerol's Côte de Nuits Villages Blanc would be mentioned again and again.

It's rare for Burgundies to nail the combination of deliciousness, rigor, and affordability like Fornerol's Côte de Nuits Villages does. This is a wine that has it all.

From 1982-1998, Fornerol worked as the vineyard manager and cellar master at Domaine de l'Arlot under Burgundy legend Jean-Pierre de Smet. In 1999, Fornerol left to take over his family’s estate, but when de Smet retired, he joined Fornerol and now assists him with all aspects of winemaking. The success of this partnership is abundantly clear.

The style here is unlike most Burgundies that you'll taste today. They look back to the Burgundies of the old days, thriving on grace and lightness. The Côte de Nuits Blanc is stony and fascinatingly combines an impression of the utmost honesty with a sleek and silky texture.

Fornerol produced gorgeous 2017s. They possess a clarity and precision that's really impressive. They're also simply lively and charming. The Côte de Nuits Blanc delivers all of this with a radiant purity.

The Côte de Nuits Blanc comes from a 0.80-hectare parcel. There is never a lot of this to go around. I suggest that you stock up now because I doubt that this will be around for very long.
