2006 Angerville Volnay 1er "Clos des Ducs"
Lowest Price in the Nation!
"...intense and mineral-inflected flavors of crystalline purity and wonderful cut and precision, all wrapped in an exceptionally fresh, deep and mouth coating finish that seems to go on and on." - Burghound
Today, we have the luxury of offering one of our favorite red Burgundies, the Volnay Clos des Ducs of Angerville, at the lowest price in the nation.
While the 2006 Vintage was challenging for some winemakers in Burgundy, the Domaines of Volnay, and especially Angerville, made unquestionably great wines that are outstanding across the board.
Though Angerville's entire lineup shines, it is the stunning Volnay Clos des Ducs which distances itself from the pack.
Arguably the finest Premier Cru in all of Volnay, Clos des Ducs is a 5.3 hectare vineyard that is entirely owned by d'Angerville. The steep slope that it sits on and the chalky soils generate wines full of finesse. On the palate, a beautiful panoply of fruits and flowers is buttressed by a bracing minerality which gives the backbone of the wine an almost stern feeling. There really are two sides to this wine, and the interplay is flawless.
While many producers in the Côte de Beaune play second fiddle / junior varsity to the powerhouses of their northern neighbors, Marquis d'Angerville is routinely and deservedly mentioned in the same breath with the Côte de Nuits big boys.
Especially with the Clos des Ducs bottling, the style of the vintage is a perfect match to Angerville's model . The wine just brims with class: I was talking with a Burgundy-obsessed customer last week who recently cracked open a bottle and we both agreed that Angerville's 06 Ducs absolutely shines with a rare combination of precision and balance, delivering an overlay of pure and refined fruit. We agreed that this is a front runner for wine of the vintage.
I'll keep it short because our stock of this wine is limited at this price so please call the store at (212) 980-9463 to secure your bottles. All orders are subject to confirmation.

Burghound: "Here there is no reduction whatsoever with a reasonably expressive nose of red and blue pinot fruit and dried rose petal nuances that dissolve into rich, intense and mineral-inflected flavors of crystalline purity and wonderful cut and precision, all wrapped in an exceptionally fresh, deep and mouth coating finish that seems to go on and on. The balance is impeccable and this too will live for many a year before it reaches old age. A classic Ducster that is slightly bigger than the '07 version is not quite as refined."
