Twenty years old and still too young?
As the 1988s develop, the choicest among them have only grown in stature.
If the vintage was a riper one, the last 24 years have taken this density, this fruit-essence concentration and attentuated it. Time has pulled these wines into fine, fine form, revealing polished minerals and somehow, a fresh, energized core of lemon pith and lime zest. They continue to grow, brighter, lighter, more focused and energetic.

At twenty plus years old, the top wines of this vintage may be still a bit young.
And the phrase, "top wines of the vintage," brings us directly to Prüm's impressive Gold Capsule Auslese. Along with the cultish 1988 Von Schuberts and 1988 Egon Müllers, there are none better. (And, aside from our little collection, there are none available in the U.S.)
Today we present a 30-bottle parcel of Prüm's extraordinary 88 GKAs, from a collector's cellar in Germany, in perfect condition.
Prüm's Gold Capsule Auslesen are the best of the best - different in quality, rarity and price from the regular Auslesen. With Prüm the Gold Capsule indicates Auslesen made from the top parcels, the best grapes... these are the last stop before one heads into the otherworldly (again, both in terms of rarity and pricing) Prüm dessert wines - BAs, TBAs and the like.
With current release Prüm Gold Capsule Auslesen coming to market at $100+, today's back-vintage GKA is something of a bargain. Or, at the very least, it's very, very well priced.
