Extra-Brut Grand Cru Millesime

"The 2002 Extra-Brut Grand Cru Millesime is one of the great wines of this vintage... The overt richness bears more than a passing resemblance to Montrachet" -Antonio Galloni

To cut to the chase, Anselme Selosse is making some of the most original and profound wines anywhere in the world.

When it comes to a great Champagne vintage like 2002, the heights that the wines reach are ridiculous.

Galloni's Montrachet comparison highlights just how layered, how voluptuous, how elegant Selosse's wines are. They are mindbogglingly complex wines - nuance is piled upon nuance.

They are also painfully rare. There are few producers that we have more difficulty keeping in stock. In recent years, Selosse's reputation has just exploded making wines that were always rare even more impossible to find. For sure, Selosse's vintage releases are among the rarest.

This modest parcel of 2002 represents the only bottles available in the U.S. It took considerable searching to get 02 Selosse in any quantity.

This is one of the great and singular wines of the world. Not to mention that previous great vintages, like 90 and 96, are now selling in the $900-1,000 range.

Selosse's vintage wines are sourced from two choice old-vine parcels in the Grand Cru village of Avize, Les Chantereines and Les Maladries du Midi. The idea is to focus both on a steep minerally site and on a richer site that produces rounder, deeper wines.

Selosse's 2002 captures this combination of mineral verve with rich and ripe notes beautifully. As Galloni writes, "Waves of rich, tropical infused fruit supported by veins of saline minerality flow through to the voluptuous, huge finish."

He goes on to say, "This is a stunning wine." That sums it nicely. Quantities are extremely limited.
