Perfectionism In A Striking Vintage
2005 Bachelet Gevrey-Chambertin VV

Bachelet is one of my favorite producers anywhere.

Today, I'm very excited to offer a small parcel of Bachelet's 2005 Gevrey VV.

I'd wager that the 2005 vintage will be a legend many, many decades down the road. Think in terms of 1962. I still taste Bourgogne Rouges that are young and not quite ready.

It goes without saying that finding 2005s from top producers in any quantity is almost impossible. People who bought the wines aren't letting them see the light of day.

This is a big offer for me. It's the result of a recent purchase that I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to snap up.

If I had to pick one bottling from Denis Bachelet, it would be Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes. The Gevrey VV is exceptional, in the greatest sense of the word. It's a villages-level wine that far transcends the category of basic Burgs. The quality at this level provides ample evidence of the perfectionism that animates this estate.

This helps to explain why even the most cherry-picking of collectors buy Bachelet's Gevrey every vintage.

I've always loved Bachelet's Gevrey, but a bottle of 1990 a few years ago was a revelation. It was an unforgettable bottle: at two decades old, it was beautiful, astonishingly so. I expect even more from the 2005 when it hits full maturity. Every bottle I've tasted has been shockingly good.

The "Vieilles Vignes" designation isn't just for show. Average vines here are 60 to 70 years old, with the oldest dating back to 1932. You undoubtedly feel the old vine concentration in the 2005 vintage. It's dense and structured with incredible precision and length.

Bachelet's 2005 Gevrey is epic - there's no better way of describing this wine. It's rich, meaty and saturated in complex soil tones. For its nearly overwhelming intensity, it walks gracefully on tip toes. It's a blatant example of what makes Burgundy so special.

There's magic to the wines, a depth and mystery that I can never put my finger on and never tire of. They are some of the most noteworthy, authentic wines in the whole of Burgundy.

I anticipate a quick sell out and that we'll need to allocate. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
