2007 Bouchard Meursault 1er Cru Perrières
Flirting with Grand Cru Quality

Perrières is one of those vineyards; like Clos St. Jacques, Gaudichots, this is one of those sites that is more than a 1er Cru.

It's sort of that simple.

Labels like "Premier Cru" and "Grand Cru" can be comforting; official validations of status, authorized indicators that are plain and simple, emblazoned on the label for all to see.

We don't need to tell you, however, that Burgundy is plenty more complicated than these classifications could ever fathom. (The market, as per normal, figures it out: Consider that Coche-Dury's Perrieres is somewhere in the $900-neighborhood, Lafon's is about $300.)

Today we present a small offering of a wine that is in many ways more a part of Bouchard's "Grand Crew" than anything else: The 2007 Meursault Perrières at only $73.95.

Take a look at Burghound for fun; it's a quick scan from Montrachet, to the awesome Corton-Charlemagne, to the Perrières at the five-spot.

There is no Meursault with more authority, more stone-inflected discipline than the Perrières. As with the 2007 Corton-Charlemagne, which we emailed about earlier this year, the Perrières is unflinching, a wine of ruthless mineral and a hammer-like acidity. Yet this is still Meursault, so there is a more graceful, baby-fat inflected mid-palate, a depth of material that is simply awesome.

This is a wine that will unfold over the next 5 to 10 years, revealing only more layers and nuance.

The 2007 Bouchards are just stunners, one of the collections of the vintage, and if the Corton-Charlemagne is a steal at $129 (and it is), the Perrières at just over $70 is something close to a must-have bottling.

Don't consider too long though - we have only a few cases in stock and this will go quickly. To order, email us at offers@crushwineco.com or call (212) 980-9463.

Burghound: "A less expressive but even more complex nose features acacia blossom, pear and citrus aromas nuanced by an almost pungent minerality that continues onto the pure, detailed and almost painfully intense flavors that possess serious delineation on the notably ripe and sappy finish. I was knocked out by this textbook Perrières. Highly recommended."
