2007 Raveneau Chablis 1er Butteaux
Old-Vine Elegance from Raveneau
Special offer *only* for MdT Supporters
Just not enough Raveneau to go around.
With only a few cases en route, there's just not enough of today's "ultra elegant" Raveneau to send to the full list.
So today we say thank you to those of you who supported Raveneau's 2007 Montée de Tonnerre, with a follow-up offer on Raveneau's 1er Cru Butteaux at only $109.95.
As we stated in the Montée de Tonnerre email, the 2007 Chablis are just spectacular. We are tremendously excited about this vintage - for those of you who love precision, cut, minerality and detail, it just won't get any better than this.
While the 1er Montée de Tonnerre drinks like a Grand Cru wannabe - it is big, chewy, authoritarian - the 1er Cru Butteaux is leaner, more delicate and elegant. It's a simpler wine, no doubt, though there is something so texturally beautiful about the Butteaux, it is silken, leaner and extraordinarily graceful. The framework of the Butteaux is more modest, though there is a unity and seamlessness that is just enchanting.
While the Montée de Tonnerre demands cellar time, the Butteaux drinks better younger and will come into prime drinking form earlier than the MdT.
For rock-heads, the Butteaux has a beautifully present expression of mineral - it's just less complicated by overwhelming density, muscle and size, as is the case with the Montée de Tonnerre. For those who love finesse, the Butteaux will be right up your alley. Stephen, the resident "less is more" advocate and someone who is passionate about the delicate beauty of Germany's Kabinetts, finds a similar spirit in the Butteaux and actually prefers it to the MdT.
In any event, it's hardly a case of better or worse - just different expressions of Chablis, different vineyards. Both come from the master and for the Chablis collector, both are worth having in the cellar. Only a few cases are available so we strongly encourage you to place your order as soon as possible via email at offers@crushwineco.com - please give us your maximum order and we will allocate accordingly. All orders subject to confirmation.

Burghound: "This is clearly the best of these left bank 1ers with its refined and ultra elegant nose that features a classic mix of citrus, floral, iodine and tidal pool notes trimmed in enough wood to notice it though not enough to dominate the nose. The powerful, concentrated and very firm medium plus weight flavors deliver a bone dry and palate etching finish of superb length. This is a classy effort that is almost painfully intense and it's clear that the older vines add another dimension. Impressive."
