Lovingly Made, Terroir Expressive
2009 Marie-Noëlle Ledru Brut Grand Cru
Last weekend, we offered Ledru's non-vintage. It sold out quickly.
Today, we turn to the other half of the parcel, the 2009 vintage. It will surely sell out in a flash.
Ledru produced beautiful 2009s.
Her Champagnes are famous for their steely, chalky backbones and this sternness played right into the hands of the 2009 vintage.
Generally speaking, 2009 produced riper, rounder Champagnes. The best examples (like Ledru) offer a serious spine for the fruit to meld into over time. For these wines, the aging potential is really promising.
Many feel that Pinot Noir is the star grape of the 2009 vintage. The majority of Ledru's vines are in Ambonnay, which is some of the greatest terroir for Pinot in all of Champagne.
Ledru's 2009 shows an expansive mid-palate that gives way to a tension-filled, chalk-inflected and lifted finish. There's a beautiful core packed with mineral and zingy notes of ripe citrus along with floral notes.
Ledru produces some of the most lovingly made and terroir-expressive Champagnes around. She handles every aspect of production on her own (from the vineyards, to the paperwork, to the cellar where every bottle is hand-disgorged.)
Given the rarity of Ledru, how impressive the wines are and the incredible value that this offers, I expect this to sell out quickly. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
