In all likelihood, Angerville's Fremiet reached its ultimate expression in 2010. This may indeed be the greatest Frémiet.
2010 in Burgundy is all about a marriage of terroir-saturated clarity and a weightless intensity. Recently, Stephen Tanzer came right out and said, "2010 is the finest vintage for red Burgundy I have tasted since I made my first tour of the region in 1988."

Needless to say, in 2010, the precision, the salty minerality, the perfume that defines Frémiet flourished.
This is one of the great deals of the vintage, especially in the context of Angerville. 2010 Ducs is going for $250; Champans and Taillepieds are well over the $100 mark.
The ugly side of the 2010 vintage is that quantities have been absolutely brutal. Producers saw production drop somewhere around 30-40 percent from the norm.
Angerville, in particular, has been painfully limited. It's not surprising. Angerville is always on the short list of Burgundy collectors. For top Burgundy, there is likely no better value out there than Angerville.
For the past year, I've been looking for a good sized parcel of Angerville to offer. At points, its seemed impossible, but finally this sharply priced parcel came across my desk and I jumped on it.
The 1er Cru Frémiet sits right across from Angerville's famous Clos des Ducs. Despite the proximity, Frémiet is a big departure from Ducs. Frémiet possesses delicacy, an assertive, firm minerality, gorgeous aromatics and a beautifully focused precision.
In 2010, Frémiet just pops - all of its hallmarks seem amplified and also completely harmonious. Its success is undeniable.
Amidst Ducs and Champans, Frémiet is often overlooked. It would be a mistake to do this in 2010. There may be no smarter buy in the vintage.
