2010 Burgundy Value

Let's get right to the point: Angerville's 2010 Volnay is gorgeous.

I've always loved the 2010s, but the more I taste them the more impressed I am with the vintage.

There's a purity, a sense of energy that I'm enamored with. It's exactly what I chase after in a Burgundy.

Angerville sources his Volnay from a mere .47ha, which is to say that securing this wine in any quantity is really difficult. We'll keep this short as this will likely sell out quickly.

Angerville is one of our favorite producers. His Volnays are benchmark examples, equal parts silk and velvet and always heartbreakingly elegant and mineral.

His 2010 Volnay drives this home. Burghound calls it "a classic Volnay of both style and grace." To that we should add that the 2010 Volnay delivers a driving stony minerality combined with beautifully defined red fruits, spice and violets.

Angerville's 2010 Volnay shows a level of refinement, poise and complexity that's very rare for a village wine.

There's not much to say: this is a great value from a benchmark Burgundy producer, in a stunning vintage. Since it's a Friday in May, let's just leave it at that.

Burghound: "Relatively strong reduction renders the nose unreadable for now. There is good richness to the supple, round and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors that possess a silky mouth feel as well as a subtle touch of minerality on the well-balanced finale. A classic Volnay of both style and grace."
