2010 Red Burgundy Value
2010 Duband Côte de Nuits
Burgundy's Rising Star
"I was thrilled with the wines I tasted with David Duband. The 2010s are fabulous." -Antonio Galloni
2010 in Burgundy is a vintage that we love. The wines have a vividness, a clarity, a transparency and yet plenty of substance. It's a great, classically styled vintage.
The unfortunate thing, though, is that the word is out and quantities are down, often around 40% below normal. With demand high and quantities way down, finding values in 2010 is a real challenge.
We've been hunting for accessibly priced 2010s that drink well beyond their price points since the vintage started being released.
The value here cannot be overstated especially in the context of such a brilliant, low yielding vintage.
While I have always viewed Duband's wines as excellent values, his 2010 collection shattered my expectations. We've been closely watching Duband's wines as they steadily improved year after year, but 2010 marks a clear breakthrough. If there was any doubt, 2010 marks the year that his wines are ready for primetime and for your short list.
His Côte de Nuits is sourced from Brochon, an area just outside of Gevrey-Chambertin. Duband's Côte de Nuits shares some of Gevrey's power and muscle. Under Duband's skillful watch in 2010 these vines produced a polished, voluptuous Pinot Noir fruit that's drizzled throughout with a gravelly minerality that adds texture and depth.
Burghound's note highlights the purity of the 2010 vintage and Duband's careful winemaking: "detailed and equally pure, precise and energetic flavors that possess an abundance of underlying tension..."
Duband has been ever improving since his inaugural 1991 vintage. He was just 19 when he took over the domaine. With each passing vintage his commitment to quality has been increasingly apparent. The wines grow more elegant and more transparent each year. The simple fact is that in the past few years Duband has situated himself as a star on the rise.
It really seems that Duband is just starting to hit his stride and that the future is very bright. He's one of the most exacting and serious young winemakers in Burgundy. His recent expansion, including a lease on the Jacky Truchot domaine, has given him some choice plots in the Grand Crus of Charmes-Chambertin and Clos de la Roche. He continues to work incredibly hard in the vineyards and has fully converted to organic viticulture. He is definitely one to watch.
This offer comes right in time for the looming days of winter: it's juicy and plush enough to drink on its own and structured and complex enough to accompany seasonal meals like Coq Au Vin, hearty beef stews or a simple roast chicken. That's if you're the impatient type. Otherwise, feel free to hold on to these for another five or more years.
While our parcel is sizeable, this is 2010 Burgundy under $30 - it simply won't last long. We advise replying ASAP with your ideal order and we'll try our best.
