2012 Foillard Morgon Corcelette
When Foillard's Corcelette is on, it's one of the most elegant Morgons you'll ever taste.
Corcelette may very well be Foillard's most under-the-radar bottling.
If Foillard's Côte du Py is about a certain deep meatiness and richness, Corcelette is about a more feminine grace and the aromatics that jump from the glass.

I should mention from the get-go that Foillard's Corcelette has always been a rare bottling, but in recent years it's become very difficult to find in any quantity.
The explanation for the difference between Corcelette and Côte du Py is simple: it is the soil, the terroir. Here, we are dealing with very old vines (80 years old) planted in sandy soil. (Compare this to Côte du Py's schist.)
Foillard's Corcelette brings Morgon's most feminine, delicate side front and center. It has an incredible velvety suppleness, a racy softness that still has plenty of vigor and snap beneath it all. From there, Corcelette is all about spice, dark fruits and flowers.
The 2012 edition of Corcelette delivers this combination of an absolutely lovely textural element with an incisive cut in a really beautiful way. 2012 in Beaujolais was no walk in the park: the line between failure and success is clearly drawn. It's probably no surprise that Foillard is squarely in the latter category. Foillard's 2012s are some of our absolute favorites of the vintage. They show the vividness, delineation and straight-up joyful drinking that the best of 2012 offers.
Foillard is the master of Morgon. Across his range, the wines are so pure and precise. It's always a wise move to stock up because you'll find yourself draining bottles with abandon and you'll definitely want to have some in your cellar to watch evolve over the next five years and beyond.
