Roulot produced simply magical 2013s.
Roulot's work with Chardonnay is on another plane. No one renders the grape with such a riveting expression - razor sharp, indisputably noble, and emphatically mineral.
All of these signatures are amplified and cast in sharp relief in 2013. I've been consistently blown away by the purity of the 2013 White Burgs. And even in this context, Roulot's wines are killer.
Calling a vintage a home-run for Roulot is a big thing. 2013 is clearly that.
One of the best places to witness this is Roulot's Meursault Villages bottling. The villages designation is very deceiving. In 2013, it delivers an incredible amount of class, finesse and delineation.
Since release, I've never hesitated to buy any decently priced parcel of the Meursault Villages that I've come across. Recently, I was lucky enough to snag a modestly sized one, which I'm happy to offer here. I should note that these are the only bottles available in the country.
This is a don't miss vintage of Roulot's Meursault. It's so painfully precise with deeply etched complexity and amazing length. In short, this is an amazing edition of this wine.
Along with Coche-Dury, Roulot is the standard bearer of Meursault. No one has influenced the young generation of White Burgundy producers the way that Roulot has. The 2013 Meursault offers a snap shot of one of Burgundy's great winemakers at the height of his powers.
