2014 White Burgundy Sweet Spot:
2014 Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon

Posted by Ian McFadden

Leflaive resides at the very highest level of white Burgundy. Right there with Coche-Dury, Lafon, Roulot, and Ramonet.

Leflaive's 2014s are easily some of the best wines that we've seen from them in the past decade.

I'm incredibly excited about the 2014 white Burgundies. The 2014 Leflaives dramatize just how good the vintage is - they have showstopping elegance, real impact and complexity, and serious cut and structure.

There's no getting around the fact that Leflaive's long-standing renown has translated to pricing reflecting prestige. In top vintages, I look to Clavoillon for the shocking value that it offers in relationship to the rest of Leflaive's line-up.

There's no getting around the fact that Clavoillon can be overlooked among Leflaive's 1er Crus. It doesn't have the distinctive power of Pucelles or the intense minerality of Combettes. With that said, catch Clavoillon in the right vintage and you'll be wowed by its harmony and the mineral delicacy of its spine.

2014 is one of the best editions of the Clavoillon. There's a combination of depth, finesse and energy that's rarely seen in the 1er Cru. John Gilman nails it when he writes: "The elegance of 2014 has given the Clavoillon here wings on which to soar!"

I'm very happy to be offering Leflaive's 2014 Clavoillon. The 2014 White Burgundies are not to be missed and the 2014 Clavoillon is just shockingly good.

2014 Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet
1er Cru Clavoillon

John Gilman: "The 2014 Clavoillon from Domaine Leflaive is very floral this year and delivers superb complexity and breed on both the nose and palate. The outstanding nose wafts from the glass in a pure blend of apple, white peach, chalky soil tones, a gardenful of white flowers, a touch of fresh almond and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and simply gorgeous on theattack, with a fine core, bright acids and excellent backend precision on the very long and racy finish. The elegance of 2014 has given the Clavoillon here wings on which to soar!"
