"This is really lovely stuff and a complete knock-out." -Burghound
There's something magical and totally captivating about their understated grace.
Along with d'Angerville, Lafarge stands as the long-standing benchmark of Volnay.
I'm happy to offer Lafarge's 2016 1er Cru Clos du Château des Ducs. It's become a luxury to be able to offer Lafarge's top wines. Today's offer is a case in point: These are the only bottles available in the country.
The Clos du Château des Ducs is muscular and has an intense mineral imprint. There's incredible clarity in its presentation of the red fruits, spice, and floral notes. For all of its earthy punch, it still comes across as beautifully elegant.
The 2016 Ducs has a striking purity and finesse. The power and precision are amazing. Burghound captures this really well when he writes that the wine is a "complete knock-out".
There are times when I can imagine drinking nothing besides Lafarge. That speaks volumes about their captivating soulfulness. The 2016 Château des Ducs is a powerful example of what makes Lafarge so special.

Burghound: "Lafarge explained that this was made from fruit that was destemmed by hand using what the Burgundians call a claie en osier, or a lattice made of wicker that was placed on top of a fermenter; this approach was sometimes used in the 19th C). A dazzlingly pure, fresh and soaring nose features notes of essence of red cherry, currant, spice and soft floral scents. While the medium weight flavors do not have the same size and power of the Clos des Chênes, they are notably finer with a sleek muscularity and terrific length on the highly refreshing and energetic finish. This is really lovely stuff and a complete knock-out."
