2017 Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin

Posted by Ian McFadden

Griotte-Chambertin is one of the most beguiling and elegant of Gevrey's Grand Crus.

It is also one of the smallest and most elusive Grand Crus in Burgundy. Just over a handful of producers even make wine in Griotte.

These days, Fourrier may produce the most famous examples of the Grand Cru. However, Drouhin's bottling remains the long-standing benchmark of Griotte. They have produced amazing renditions of the Grand Cru for many, many decades.

For me, and many others, Griotte is among the absolute best of Drouhin's wide and impressive lineup that includes Musigny, Clos de Bèze, and Amoureuses.

The nature of Griotte plays perfectly into Drouhin's refined, diamond cut, and seriously elegant style.  It's an ultra-detailed wine with serious transparency, finesse, and whip-smart tension.

Drouhin's 2017s are heartbreakingly beautiful, and the Griotte represents a high point. In this vintage, the refinement and nuanced intricacy of Drouhin's Griotte really shines.
