Being able to offer Raveneau has become a very rare luxury.
Today, I'm very happy to offer a very modest parcel of Raveneau's stunning 2017 1er Cru Butteaux. I should warn from the outset that I expect a quick sell out.
Butteux has become one of my favorites from Raveneau. While this is quickly changing, Butteaux remains the most overlooked bottle in Raveneau's lineup. In Raveneau's hands, the site becomes a gorgeous weave of chiseled minerality, stone fruits, and citrus. Above all else, Butteaux is about being linear and mineral. It's a high-tension Chablis.
That is why I can't get enough of Butteaux. The elegance, minerality, and energy are beautiful. Among Raveneau's 1er Crus, it's the perfect counterpoint to the power and richness of Montée de Tonnere.
The 2017 vintage in Chablis is seriously impressive. The wines deliver a near-perfect richness and presence with an intense cut. The Butteaux really flaunts these qualities. Burghound's note captures the wine well: "possess excellent muscle and intensity on the super-saline, indeed this has an almost salty finish." The wine's intensity and kinetic, delineated minerality is really impressive.
Most of you are sadly aware of the deal with Raveneau. There's never enough to go around. As usual, I'll ask you to give us your ideal order, and we will do our best.

Burghound: "Wafting aromas of essence of pear, iodine and copious amounts of mineral reduction are also trimmed in just enough wood to mention. The succulent yet powerful broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent muscle and intensity on the super-saline, indeed this has an almost salty finish. Fine quality here and built-to-age as well."
