In Alzinger's hands, Loibenberg reaches a rare level of delicacy and intricacy.
Loibenberg is one of Austria's most famous sites. It produces one of the grandest and most formidable wines in all of Austria.
No one in Austria does intensity and detail quite like Alzinger. This signature is always on bold display in the Loibenberg.
Many are hailing the 2019 vintage in Austria as one of the best we've seen in a long time. The fairly cool and nearly perfect September allowed the wines to develop a freshness and crystal-clear fruit. It's a vintage where Alzinger thrived.
In 2019, Loibenberg's power is channeled into the wine's sleek energy and extreme focus. As you'd expect, this is most apparent in the Riesling Loibenberg. It offers up a tremendous amount of mineral rigor along with lift and finesse. We really love the wine's textural fascination and drive.
The Grüner has a similar underpinning of saline and stony minerality, but also a fleshier and more forceful presentation of herbs, spice, and moist earth. There's a saturating presence yet it's also animated by a beautiful airy quality.
As most of you are sadly aware, the problem with Alzinger is the quantities. Alzinger is only 10ha, and the wines are doled out in painfully small quantities. Given the excitement over the 2019s, we expect both Loibenbergs to sell out quickly.
