We're really happy to offer a trio of Lignier's 2019s.
We love Lignier's wines for their rugged, soulful honesty. These are Burgundies of unmediated majesty.
Lignier is famous for their consistency, but even keeping this in mind 2019 is a standout collection. The wines have an incredible depth, power, and terroir-soaked breeding. Vinous Media's Neal Martin writes: "an excellent set of wines."
The Chaffots 1er Cru sits above Clos de la Roche and Clos St. Denis. It's a very rocky site. Lignier's makes clear this is an extreme site-boasting intense concentration with driving acidity, jagged tannins, and a dark stony minerality. Age brings an incredible amount of depth and mystery to the wine.
The Morey 1er Cru VV is one of Lignier's cult bottlings. It's sourced from old vines that sit beneath the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru in the 1er Crus Les Faconnieres and Les Chenevery. Lignier's long-time importer, Neal Rosenthal, writes the Morey 1er Cru VV "possesses that ineffable Grand Cru stature."
The rarest of the three wines is the Charmes-Chambertin. In 2019, their holdings of 0.10ha yielded a single barrel. Like Bachelet's, Lignier's Charmes is one of the more structured and complex examples of this Grand Cru. It's one of the great and unsung wines of their lineup.
Lignier is one of the Burgundy producers that I have a real soft spot for. The wines are the genuine article. The 2019s are not to be missed.

2019 Morey St. Denis "Les Chaffots"
Special Bottle Price: $179.95
Compare at $180-225
Neal Martin, Vinous Media: "From a higher-altitude site located in a former quarry, Lignier's 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots unwinds in the glass with aromas of earthy wild berries, cherries, licorice and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's lively and precise, with a more tightly wound, lower-pH profile than the Riotte."
2019 Morey St. Denis 1er Cru VV
Special Bottle Price: $229.95
Compare at $230-350
Neal Martin, Vinous Media: "The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes is shaping up beautifully, mingling aromas of dark berry fruit, orange rind, espresso roast, forest floor and warm spices in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and complete, its serious long-haul structure largely concealed by a lively core of fruit. As usual, this "baby Clos de la Roche" derives from a parcel planted in the 1930s and 1940s that straddles the climats Faconnières and Chenevery"
2019 Charmes-Chambertin
Special Bottle Price: $419.95
Neal Martin, Vinous Media: "Deeper and more structured than the Griotte, Lignier's 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with notes of blackcurrants, cherries, sweet soil tones, wilted rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, it's ample and voluminous, with velvety tannins, succulent acids and a broad, expansive finish."
