2022 Chevillon Nuits-St-George 1er Cru Les Vaucrains MAGNUMS

"Oh so promising!" -Burghound

There are few producers who have earned my respect over the years the way Chevillon has. The wines are bulletproof in terms of how they age and their consistency. They are also some of the most honest, terroir-specific wines I know.

I buy Chevillon at nearly every opportunity and have so for almost two decades. Still, magnums of Chevillon rarely come my way.

I'm happy to offer a very modest parcel of 2022 Nuits-St-George 1er Cru Les Vaucrains in magnum.

I couldn't have hoped for a better vintage to land magnums in. As we wrote last week, the 2022s at Chevillon are jaw-droppingly good. We agree with Burghound when he writes, "2022 is as good a vintage as Chevillon has made, and that's saying something as the quality is almost never less than excellent."

Vaucrains is one of the great vineyards of Nuits St. Georges. It's an imposing wine that's legendary for its ability to age.

Chevillon has produced the benchmark Vaucrains for decades. Their Vaucrains is sourced from 80-year-old vines that produce a powerful, incredibly deep, mineral, and sauvage wine. Yet, for all of its intensity, Chevillon's Vaucrains is marked by a clarity and precision that only the best Burgundies achieve.

The 2022 Vaucrains seamlessly weaves an almost impossible amount of different elements together. It's simultaneously vibrant, detailed, muscular, seriously powerful, and finessed. The total package is profoundly compelling.

This is a stunning bottle that's destined for the long haul, especially in magnum. I wish I had more, but it's fun to be able to offer this parcel.

Burghound: "A more reserved nose grudgingly reflects notes of poached plum, earth, plenty of sauvage character and interesting whiffs of crushed star anise. There is a bit more minerality present on the vibrant and intense medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent delineation that carries over to the firm, compact and tautly muscular finish. This youthfully austere effort is going to require extended patience as it's both backward and very tightly wound yet oh so promising!"
