2025 Emrich-Schönleber: The Grand Cru Dry Rieslings

Emrich-Schönleber is a master of dry Riesling; we've long since painted a picture of a holy triumvirate: Schönleber, Keller, and Schäfer-Fröhlich.

While this remains true, perhaps a more insightful comparison would be to the diamond-cut, incisive Rieslings of the Saar: think Egon Müller, Lauer, Hofgut Falkenstein. In fact, German wine lovers going back to the mid-twentieth century have compared this part of the Nahe to the hallowed Saar.

Schönleber's sites are in the upper Nahe, a truly unique and truly cold part of the Nahe. Here the valley is wide, the wind ferocious, just like the Saar... and this ruthless coolness ripples through the bracing dry Rieslings.
