Phenomenal Back-Vintage Burgundy Value
1999 Domaine Robert Arnoux Echézeaux
"Much like a smaller scale Musigny" - The Burghound
The Only Bottles Available in the World
This is not the perfect Christmas gift or the ideal bottle to drink on New Year's (the wine arrives in 2011). But that doesn't change the fact that this may well be one of our very best values of 2010...
Today we present the 1999 Domaine Robert Arnoux Echézeaux at $169.95 a bottle - the only pricing in the world.
We've all got a lot going on today, so I’ll keep this very short and sweet - the pricing is such that our few cases will move faster than I can think of something extra-clever to say. The Burghound’s full rave is below, and if you haven’t brushed up on the latest on domaine Arnoux, here’s what you need to know:
Besides today’s Echézeaux, the house has none-too-shabby land in Vosne's Romanée-St.-Vivant, that commune’s Suchots and Reignots 1ers, and Clos de Vougeot.
Since taking over this little jewel of an estate in 1993, the current head of the estate Pascal Lachaux has amped up Arnoux’s reputation by implementing all the diligent steps of the best viticulture and winemaking: Now, yields are seriously reduced, organic and biodynamic viticulture are practiced, fruit is handled extra-carefully, and wines are no longer fined or filtered.
The estate, which was always strong (and of course - the sites are insane), has moved into the realm of consistently outstanding under Lachaux. And 1999 in the Côte de Nuits was phenomenal… one of the vintages of the century for the best producers like Arnoux. As Alan Meadows appropriately says in his vintage notes, “The young, dynamic Pascal Lachaux has once again made excellent use of, to use his words, ever improving raw materials. […] Further, he believes the fruit quality is the finest he's ever seen.” We agree.
As noted in our opening, these are the only bottles currently available in the world. There are a mere few cases, and the pricing is, well, unbeatable. Take note that this is barely above current-release pricing - quite simply, this is an outstanding value for 11-year-old Grand Cru red Burgundy.
Please reply to this email or call the store at (212) 980-9463 with your ideal maximum order, and we’ll do our best to get a few bottles into everyone's hands. And happy holidays!

Burghound: Much like a smaller scale Musigny with licorice, violets, Vosne spice and plenty of solid powerful flavors yet no lack of elegance. Fresh and lively with better acidity than this range generally shows with excellent persistence.
