The 2013 vintage in Champagne is one of our favorites in the past couple of decades. It was a cool, throw-back vintage with many growers harvesting in October, which is very late by recent standards.
In 2013, the Coeur de Cuvée has beautiful incisive elegance with loads of silky texture and refinement. The wine is always a study in nuance and detail, but the 2013 really delivers.
By now, many of you know the deal with Coeur de Cuvée. It's the "heart of the cuvée," the very best juice from the precious middle portion of the first pressing. Coeur de Cuvée is sourced from a choice single vineyard, Blanches Voies, from old vines. Typical production is meager, somewhere around 5,000 bottles.
I've had many compelling experiences with mature Vilmart. In the cellar, Coeur de Cuvée impresses me as being "bulletproof." Everything is in place for the 2013 to age beautifully.
