I'm going to keep this short. It's clear that word is out on Jouan.
Anytime that we've offered Jouan this year, it's disappeared.
They are supremely graceful and subtle Burgundies. They have a whispering complexity. Once you adjust to their un-showy wavelength, it's really easy to become obsessed.
Gevrey is known for its muscle and meatiness. The lieu-dit "Aux Echezeaux" complicates this image of Gevrey somewhat. It's located in the southern part of the appellation on the border of Morey. It's more delicate and silky. Obviously, these qualities play right into Jouan's hands.
Jouan's Aux Echezeaux takes Gevrey's textbook soil-inflected minerality and adds a beguiling cast of aromatics, an enchanting textural allure and lift.
In 2015, the Aux Echezeaux is especially strong. Delicacy is married to an imposing, tensile presence. The 2015's purity of expression is really impressive, especially considering the atypical scale that it works on.
Generally speaking, Jouans' 2015s are a dream brew of elegance, concentration and vibrant lift. The Aux Echezeaux really highlights this irresistible combination. It's one of the strongest vintages of the wine that I've tasted. Don't miss.
