"A great, great vintage for
the Dauvissat La Forest."
-John Gilman
2010 Dauvissat Chablis
1er Cru La Forest
"Vincent Dauvissat has made absolutely scintillating 2010s, and probably along with the range at Domaine William Fèvre, these are the best 2010 Chablis cuvées that I tasted on my trip"
-John Gilman, View from the Cellar
It's a Friday in August, so let's keep this short and sweet.
Luckily, things are pretty simple: 2010 is a great vintage for Chablis, and Dauvissat just rocked it.
As the Gilman quote makes clear, Dauvissat is one of the stars (possibly THE star) of the vintage.
Of course, this should come as no surprise. Chablis can share the stage with the best wines in the world, and this status is largely thanks to the efforts of Dauvissat and Raveneau.
Dauvissat's La Forest is one of the silly deals of the wine world. The complexity and ageability it offers at this price is just ridiculous and shocking, particularly in a year like 2010. A few weeks back, we opened an 85 Forest that was just gorgeous. It was still youthful and rigorously pure in its minerality.
2010 shows plenty of potential to be a historic example of this wine. Dauvissat's 2010 La Forest is a masterpiece of sculpted purity, defined by subtlety, balance and a keen, almost surgical precision. You’ll find a quarry of crushed rocks, fluorescent moss, briny sea foam, yellow-green fruit and chalky, etched mineral.
You're encouraged to go deep, but here is where things might get ugly. As with everyone else in 2010, yields at Dauvissat were way, way down - up to forty percent. Dauvissat's La Forest always sells out quickly, we expect 2010 to go even faster than usual. The vintage is just too strong and the quantities too small.
