"A knock out" -Burghound
2011 Fevre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos
Fevre nailed the 2011 vintage, and Les Clos is the jewel in the crown.
Fevre's Clos has quickly become one of the iconic wines of Chablis - right there with Dauvissat's and Raveneau's Clos. We recently tasted a bunch of older Fevre Clos (02, 04 and 05), and all were stunning.
In the past few years, Chablis has blown up. The elite wines have soared in price and finding them on the market can seem impossible. Raveneau's Clos is the extreme example of this. It clocks in at $500 per bottle if you can find it.
The pricing of Fevre's Les Clos stands in contrast to its peers - it can be had at a fraction of the cost.
Among Chablis' Grand Crus, Les Clos is the undisputed king. Les Clos is as powerful and densely mineral as Chablis gets. It is Chablis at its most statuesque, dazzling and complex. All of its power and seashell minerality are married to supreme elegance.
Fevre has "the touch" with their Les Clos: their Clos highlights the breeding and mineral saturated concentration of this Grand Cru, while rendering it chiseled and cut.
This "touch" with Les Clos really flourished in the 2011 vintage. The 2011 vintage in Chablis takes the freshness of a vintage like 2010 and combines it with riper, more generous vintages like 2005. Fevre brilliantly judged the vintage: they maintained acidity and poise while at the same time capitalizing on the palate saturating intensity of 2011.
Their 2011 Les Clos is no joke. It shows incredible length and density, while maintaining a razor sharp focus and dancing finesse. In short, as Burghound says, it's "A knock out."
Yet again, Fevre produced some of the best wines of the vintage in Chablis. And the word is out. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.
