For the past few vintages, Gouges' Nuits has become an essential part of our Burgundy program. It's one of our go-to values.
The wines of Gouges are legendary. Tasting the wines from the 70s can be utterly transformative.
In my recent visits to the domaine, it's become clear that they are at the top of their game. While this is obvious throughout the range, the Nuits really stands out for how much it over-delivers.
For many, Nuits is one of the most successful places of the 2017 vintage. Gouges' Nuits possesses such balance and clarity that it makes a very persuasive argument that special things happened here.
The NSG has Gouges’ signature muscle, dark fruit and earth. It’s paired with a bright, lifted quality and distinct minerality that really makes this wine outperform its category. Everything is clear and precise.
Gouges wines are known for having a rigorous architecture in youth that often requires cellar time before the wine shows its full potential. But the NSG villages is more generous, and while it will benefit from a few years in the cellar, it shows well at a relatively young age.
Before wrapping up, I should warn you that this is a modest parcel and pricing is sharp, the lowest around. I'm slipping this in on a Sunday in hopes that we won't disappoint to many people, but a sell out seems inevitable.
