Domaine des Closiers is the Loire domaine to watch.
Owner Anatole de la Brosse purchased a domaine from a retiring winemaker and enlisted the help of two of the region's legends, Nady Foucault of Clos Rougeard, and Michel Chevré, who worked at Roches Neuves. Basically, he enlisted the help of the region's two benchmarks.
The depth and textual fascination of Closiers' wines make it clear that the combination of terroir and talent is really paying off.
Today, we're happy to offer Domaine des Closiers 2021 Saumur Champigny Les Closiers.
The 2021 Les Closiers is the ideal introduction to the domaine. The Closiers bottling is a blend of parcels and is intended to be the most accessible of the lineup. While being seriously structured and complex, it's expressive enough to make how finely composed the wine is very clear. The 2021 is a fresh and nimble vintage that lends a terroir-soaked mineral edge to the wine.
Domaine des Closiers is located in the village of Parnay, which is home to rare sloping vineyards. The area is known for producing powerful expressions of Saumur-Champigny. Even in the Les Closiers, you sense an underlying structure beneath the upfront velvety appeal that would allow the wine to age beautifully for 7-10 years.
I strongly encourage you to check out at least a bottle or two. This is a domaine that is already causing a stir and you'll definitely be hearing about in the future.
