Benoit Moreau is one of Burgundy's most exciting young producers.
We've covered this in other emails, but it's worth returning to briefly here. Benoit Moreau is the younger son of Bernard Moreau. In 2020, he decided to take his portion of his family's vines and make wine on his own.

Along with parcels in Burgundy, Benoit Moreau has choice parcels in Beaujolais.
It would be a mistake to overlook Moreau's work in Beaujolais. In the past couple of weeks, we've had a couple of powerful reminders of this.
First, we opened a bottle of 2021 Morgon Corcelette Truges that was mind-blowingly good. The staff returned to work the next day, talking about it (a rare occurrence). About a week after that, the importer showed up with the 2023 Beaujolais-Villages "Aux Gauthiers". It too was really impressive, so much so that we started planning this offer.
Moreau's Beaujolais shares the same signatures of heartbreaking purity and pitch-perfect detail that have made his Burgundies so sought after.
Aux Gauthiers is a high-altitude site just outside of Morgon that is tended biodynamically. The 2023 is an outrageously delicious Beaujolais. It leads with bright, perfumed red fruits that are complicated by an undercurrent of forest floor and crushed rock. Overall, the poise and texture make this bottle a standout.
It's difficult to capture in words how impressive I've found Moreau's work in Beaujolais. The 2023 Beaujolais-Villages "Aux Gauthiers" is a prime example of their brilliance. I strongly encourage you to at least try a bottle.
