A New Voice in Burgundy
2010 Glantenay:
Volnay 1er Crus Santenots
& Clos des Chênes &
Pommard 1er Crus Saussilles & Rugiens
"This is a new domaine to me and I was very, very impressed with the quality of these wines." -John Gilman
Last year, Glantenay burst on the scene out of nowhere. Gilmans's comment above echoes our own.
We were very impressed. Glantenay's are subtle, elegant Burgundies - exactly how we like them. Even his Pommards show the muscle of the famous village with a light touch.
Today, we're happy to offer a well curated selection of Glantenay's 2010 1er Crus - Volnay Santenots and Clos de Chênes and Pommard Saussilles and Rugiens.
At this point, Glantenay's prices are very gentle, especially for some of the famous holdings he has. His wines are currently under-the-radar, but you will undoubtedly be hearing more about them and prices will creep up.
There's no getting around the fact that Burgundy prices have swiftly increased in recent vintages. The combination of interest in Burgundy and a series of low-yielding vintages have really pushed prices northward. We've been doing our best to find producers, like Glantenay and Bertheau, who are values.
Glantenay's style is one of honesty and immediacy - the wines are straightforward and structured. There's no effort to adorn the wines with anything.
In the ultra-pure and just stunning 2010 vintage, the results are really impressive. Along with Lafarge, d'Angerville, and de Montille, Glantenay is becoming part of the short list of our favorite Côte de Beaune producers.
In 2010, each site seems to shine in unmediated glory: Santenots has a sensual, streamlined elegance; Clos des Chênes has a velvety muscularity; Rugiens has fineness and powerful intensity. We haven't tasted enough Saussilles to generalize. Let's just say it's really good with surprising elegance and length.
Quantities are very limited, as you might expect from a small new Burgundy producer, so give us your maximum order and we'll do our best.
