It's rare that we offer California Cabernet or Bordeaux style blends. It's been two years since we've done an offering.
When we tasted Arnot-Roberts 2021 Red Wine yesterday evening, a blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, we started to plan an offer for today. It's extremely rare that we turn around offers this quickly.
We've been huge fans of Arnot-Robert's wines for a very long time. Still, this bottle shocked us. One of my colleagues said that they wanted to buy a case of the wine.

For many years, Arnot-Roberts has been producing some of the most exciting wines in the New World. They are delicate, fresh, nuanced, and utterly unique.
Their range covers everything from Cabernet, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay to the obscure field blends and varietals, like Ribolla Gialla and Trousseau. Some of our favorite wines in their range are Cabernet. Though different, they are clearly inspired by Cabs from California’s golden age in the 60s and 70s. There’s a similar understatement, structure, and subtle, savory profile.
Arnot-Roberts' Cabernets can be seriously structured. They leave you in awe, but also trying to imagine what the wine will be like in a decade down the road when you expect the wine to begin opening up. In contrast, the Red Wine leaves less to the imagination. It has really lovely bright fruit that cloaks the serious underlying structure and savory elements.
This is undoubtedly an old-school feeling California wine. It clocks in at 12.5% alcohol. There's a radiant fruit on the attack that's backed by vibrant acidity and a nice framing grip. The combination of power and poise is really impressive.
In short, this is simply a thrilling bottle of wine. We've had haunting bottles of old Ridge Monte Bello and Mayacamas. It's exciting to see a wine in that spirit currently coming out of California.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2021 Red Wine California is a new Bordeaux-based red wine that Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts made initially to take the place of the 2020 Cabernets that would have been released around this time but were compromised by smoke. The Red Wine was initially intended to be a fun project, but Arnot and Roberts may have stumbled into what is really a pretty serious red with real potential. The 2021 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (Massa, Bedrock and Gordenker), 20% Cabernet Franc (Persia) and 20% Merlot (Massa). A powerful, old-school wine, the 2021 is going to need a few years to shed some tannin. I loved it.'
