Champagne Royalty - Extraordinary Price
2006 Vilmart Coeur de Cuvée

"The deep, explosive finish is a thing of beauty."
-Antonio Galloni

We've always loved Vilmart's 2006 Coeur de Cuvée. And when this really well-priced parcel came along I pounced on it.

This is the lowest price around by a very healthy margin and more importantly, just a really great deal on one of Champagne's iconic grower bottlings.

Coeur de Cuvée represents the best 800 liters from the middle of the 2,050 liter pressing—the heart of the cuvée. It's sourced from a single-vineyard, 80 percent Pinot and 20 percent Chardonnay from 55-year-old vines in the intensely chalky soils of Blanches Voies. Obviously, this is intended to be an extraordinary Champagne and it doesn't disappoint.

I've had more deeply compelling experiences with mature Vilmart than almost any other grower in Champagne. In the cellar, the wines impress me as being "bulletproof."

The 2006 Coeur de Cuvée promises to age incredibly well. There's a power that's married to a chalky verve that's electrifying. Its nuanced depth is presented with beautiful classiness and harmony. Vilmart is without a doubt one of Champagne's best and most meticulous producers and it shows.

I'm very happy to be able to offer Vilmart's 2006 Coeur de Cuvée at such a sharp price. I took all that I could get, but it's not a lot. Anytime that we've offered well-priced Vilmart it's disappeared. I'm willing to bet that the 2006 will sell swiftly.
