Conterno's 2017 Barolos are jaw-droppingly good.
No other producer that I've tasted reaches the level of gracefulness and precision that Conterno did in 2017.
Francia is one of Piedmont's great wines. It isn't shy in the power department, but it also struts plenty of breeding and finesse. The grandeur and architecture of the wine is amazing.
The Barolo Francia comes from one of Serralunga’s top sites, a commune renowned for the density, texture, and heft of its wines. The 2017 has an incredible complexity and an unusual presence. It also boasts the class that Conterno endows the wine with.
Roberto Conterno has exacting standards and focuses on every little detail. The sum is an almost logic-defying profundity.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "The 2017 Barolo Francia is dense, rich and explosive right out of the gate. There is virtually no feeling of tannin, as the creaminess of the fruit is so expansive. Bright red cherry fruit, blood orange, kirsch, sage and menthol gradually appear as the 2017 starts to open in the glass. In 2017, Francia is decidedly exotic, not to mention such a thrill to taste."
