The 2013 offers up a captivating and beautifully refined mix of bright fruits, minerals and high-toned spice. It's probably no surprise that Chambolle thrived in 2013.
And when you combine Chambolle with Fourrier's style in 2013 you have a winning combination. We see precious little of Fourrier's wines from Chambolle, especially at the 1er Cru level. To put this in better context, Fourrier's Chambolle Gruenchers comes from 0.29ha and his Sentiers comes from 0.10ha.
The 1er Cru Aux Echanges dramatizes this. It boasts a haunting elegance and laser precision. When Burghound mentions the "good delineation" and "fine minerality," he gives you a very good feel for the wine. Texturally the Aux Echanges is cast in silk with an exhilarating flamboyance. Few wines delight the senses from so many angles.
The Aux Echanges is part of a micro-négociant project that Fourrier began in 2011. Similar to some members of the new generation who work partially as négociants (like Pierre-Yves Colin) Fourrier is exacting with the winegrowers that he works with. It no doubt shows in the results.
