Drouhin's Chambolle 1er Cru is a long-time favorite of mine. When a parcel of perfectly stored 1990 became available at sharp pricing, I jumped on it.
Drouhin produced a stunning collection of 1990s. They are wines that I love drinking.

Sure, you can find sexier bottlings from Drouhin - Musigny, Bonnes Mares, Clos de Bèze, Amoureuses, etc. But each time I taste through Drouhin, the 1er Cru bottling is incredibly memorable.
Vintage after vintage, it's a picture perfect example of Chambolle. The Chambolle 1er Cru is a blend of plots that are too small to bottle individually. And that likely explains why the wine comes off as so complete and so beautifully textbook Chambolle. In classic Drouhin style, there is nothing exorbitantly flashy about this wine. It's a really gorgeous, pure expression of one of Burgundy's greatest villages.
The 1990 is particularly noteworthy because Drouhin nailed the vintage. Drouhin's 90s stand out with many of Burgundy's legendary producers. Drouhin's jewel-box style married perfectly with the vintage's ripeness. Drouhin produced some of the most elegant examples of the vintage. The result is a Chambolle 1er Cru of really impressive finesse, clarity and transparency along with a quiet, building intensity.
Finding Red Burgundy with age is really difficult. Finding it in quantity with perfect provenance can seem nearly impossible. This is a rare opportunity that I strongly suggest you take advantage of.
