"A sense of utter life
and vividness"-Antonio Galloni
2010 Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Forêt
"The 2010 Chablis Forêt is rich, layered and totally sensual. A highly expressive tapestry of aromas and flavors emerges from the glass in this rich, textured wine. The Forêt is all about harmony." -Antonio Galloni
2010 is a special vintage in Chablis. Galloni's focus on harmony is important. The vintage is seriously close to being perfectly proportioned.
I'm sure that for many of you it will come as no surprise that Raveneau really nailed it in 2010.
In fact, the only problem with Ravenueau's Chablis is finding some in any meaningful quantity. When you factor in the low-yielding, heralded 2010 vintage, things only get uglier.
For months, we've been fielding requests from people chasing Raveneau's 2010s. It's nice to finally have a small amount to offer.
To underscore the rarity, I should mention that there are just three other listings for Forêt in the U.S. Because of the limited quantities, this is only going out to people who've supported the Burgundy program.
To offer a little bit of background on the La Forêt 1er Cru site: It's one of the top Premier Crus of Chablis—especially in Raveneau's hands—and is part of Montmains, with more clay in the soils. The wines it produces are typically on a silkier, leaner and more elegant wavelength than the big, muscle-flexing Crus like Montée de Tonnere. The site's elegance really shines in 2010.
2010 is simply a gorgeous, purist's vintage. The wines produce a stunning clarity and, returning to Galloni's quote above, harmony. What's most striking, though, is the combination of purity, detail and concentration. This is a very rare trifecta.
All of this is on display in Raveneau's Forêt. There's an intensity and substance to the wine as it washes the palate with high-toned yellow fruits and a dense, saline minerality all wrapped around a flamboyant elegance.
Raveneau is a master of Chablis, and his Forêt captures the thrilling and pristine nature of the 2010 vintage with a beautifully compelling vividness.
