Today, we're happy to offer one of the greats of Alzinger's lineup, the Riesling Höhereck Smaragd.
Höhereck is a famous small vineyard just east of Kellerberg, just west of Loibenberg, and just above Schütt. Alzinger owns a mere sliver in this elite site - he produces around 800 bottles per vintage. It's always the hardest bottle of the lineup to find in quantity.
The Riesling Höhereck combines many of the best qualities of its more famous neighbors. As with the Kellerberg, the Höhereck is ultimately about mineral and elegance; as with the Loibenberg, the Höhereck delivers an impressive depth of fruit and complexity.
The 2019 Riesling Höhereck is poised to be among the top wines produced from this incredible site in the past decade. Many are hailing the 2019 vintage in Austria as one of the best we've seen in a long time. The fairly cool and nearly perfect September allowed the wines to develop a freshness and crystal-clear fruit.
It's very easy to imagine Alzinger thriving in this vintage. Across the range, the wines are brilliant and display incredible finesse. Expect the 2019 Höhereck to offer an incredibly precise sculpted quality and radiant lift with stone fruits, stony minerality, and citrus notes.
