"An exercise in focused harmony and balance" - Burghound
Cherbaudes is one of the overlooked bottles in Fourrier's line-up.
There's something about its elegant, stony minerality and silky textured profile that doesn't scream out in exactly the same way as some of the other wines. With that said, there have been numerous times that I've opened up an aged bottle of Cherbaudes and have been deeply impressed.
What makes Fourrier's Gevrey so special is its pristine expression, precise finesse, and an ultra-seductive mineral-laden texture. There's a sense of flamboyance and gloss to Fourrier, but there's plenty of substance and deep complexity to back it up. This tension between gloss and hyper-detailed transparency is a big part of the magic of Fourrier.
The 1er Cherbaudes is one the best places to witness just how much elegance, detail, and clarity Fourrier's winemaking can deliver. Their holdings in total .067ha and the vines were planted in 1940. The site is just below the Grand Cru Mazis-Chambertin.
The 2019 1er Cru Cherbaudes is among the best examples of the site that we've tasted. Many of the wine's characteristics are amplified while the wine still flaunts nearly perfect proportions. Expect the 2019 to deliver plenty of silky punch along with dark fruits, earth, and plenty of minerality.
It's rare that we get to offer Fourrier's wines. I should close with a warning: Given the reputation of Fourrier's 2019s, we expect our modest parcel to sell out quickly.
