Roagna's 2014 Barbarescos are simply stunning.
They blew me away the first time I tasted them at the estate in fall 2019, and nothing has changed since then. I was so impressed that I named the 2014 Albesani my wine of the year in 2020.
On release, we've sold a very healthy amount of Roagna's 2014s. We've received many reports from customers about how impressive the wines are.
Today, I'm happy to offer Roagna's flagship bottling, the 2014 Pajè.
Sadly, vintages for Barbaresco often get lumped together with Barolo. To do so in 2014 would be to miss out in a big way.
Barbaresco turned out gorgeous wines in 2014. The vintage comes close to delivering everything that we want - verve, clarity, and clear terroir imprints. Antonio Galloni’s summary captures the vintage nicely: “Vibrant, perfumed and beautifully delineated, the 2014s capture the essence of what makes Nebbiolo so compelling.”
It's difficult to think of Roagna and not think of the Pajé vineyard. They have other great sites, like Asili, but Pajé often seems like the beating heart of the estate.
In 2014, Pajè really shines. There's a subtle radiant complexity to the wine that's heartbreaking. You get everything from bright fruits to spice, earth, flowers, and much more.
The 2014 Barbaresco Pajè is simply gorgeous. There's not much more that needs to be said. It displays a level of textural allure and purity that is mind-blowing. I expect amazing things from this bottle.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: "Cinnamon, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco and leather are some of the nuances that emerge from the 2014 Barbaresco Pajè. Pliant and open-knit, the 2014 is surprisingly open for a young Roagna Barbaresco, which makes it almost shockingly easy to enjoy even now (in relative terms), in what is the very early going by Roagna standards. Even, so there is plenty of Nebbiolo structure and tannin. Sweet rose petal, mint, tobacco, underbrush, game, and sweet red berry fruit add to the wine's stunning allure."
