"An understated wine of class and grace"
2020 Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Bouchères

Jean-Marc really has Clos des Bouchères dialed in.

It's very exciting to watch Roulot turn out absolutely brilliant wines from this monopole in recent vintages.

Clos des Bouchères is a thrilling wine combining explosive power with a cool precision and intricate delicacy.

In any vintage, Clos des Bouchères always amazes with how it combines saturating minerality with a dazzling gracefulness. It has a tactile saline impression with beautiful delineation and incredible length.

With that said, the 2020 is special. I was floored by the 2020 white Burgundies when I tasted them earlier this year. Roulot significantly outperformed in this brilliant vintage. I like how Burghound describes Roulot's success: "I was especially impressed as the style of the 2020 vintage seems to marry perfectly with the Roulot style of purity, energy and exquisitely delicate textures."

This may be the most ethereal Clos des Bouchères to date. There's soaring aromatics and serious impact with complex notes of citrus and florality. It's amazing how the wine manages such intensity while possessing a gossamer core.

I'll wrap this up. Roulot is one of the masters of white Burgundy, and the 2020 Clos des Bouchères show him at the top of his game.

Burghound: "Once again, the nose is quite cool and restrained with its array of pretty and elegant acacia blossom, lilac, exotic jasmine tea and lemon-lime hints. The elegance continues on the exquisitely refined medium weight flavors that possess really lovely detail that carries over to the lightly stony, very dry and sneaky long finale. As is almost always the case, this is an understated wine of class and grace that should be approachable young but offer up to a decade's worth of potential improvement.."
