100 Year-Old Vines, .44ha
Burgundy Masterpiece
2011 Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin
"Another knockout effort in a long string of them for the Bachelet Charmes." -Burghound
Bachelet's Charmes is one of Burgundy's masterpieces.
It is among the rarest treasures of Burgundy. Allocations, even to major merchants in major cities, often come down to a single bottle. Bachelet's plot is a mere 0.44ha of 100 year-old vines. Bachelet makes somewhere around 180 cases.
Every vintage, I go on a rampage chasing down every bottle that I can get my hands on. I can't even begin to describe the deep impression old bottles have left on me.
Bachelet's Charmes is larger-than-life. When this wine is in its zone, it has few peers. It's wickedly complex, deeply mysterious and insanely powerful, yet manages to maintain an ultra-clear, super-elegant balance.
The 2011 Charmes is a stunning edition. Burghound's "another knockout effort" is not misplaced in the least. The wine has such purity and such length that it makes its greatness felt immediately. This is simply epic wine.
As always, Bachelet's 2011 Charmes is one of the elite Burgundies of the vintage. With quantities being what they are and the reputation for the wine being what it is, I'll just end it here.
