At the Top of His Game
2013 Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne
Simply put, Lafon's 2013s are wow wines.
Across the board, they are absolutely brilliant, shimmering, laser beam wines with tension and length that's just thrilling.
Coming straight from Lafon, he says the following about the vintage: "Speaking for my wines I believe that 2013 produced classic whites of elegance, freshness, energy and first-rate transparency of terroir."
2013 marks the second vintage of Lafon's Clos de la Baronne, a 2.7ha monopole which includes 40-year-old vines. It's the third village wine in the line-up and a very welcome new arrival. It's well known that Lafon's village bottlings transcend the category by a wide margin. They have no trouble going head to head with many 1er Crus. As such, the village bottlings quickly disappear from the market.
Clos de la Baronne possesses a similar resonance, length and intricately and deeply etched detail as the Clos de la Barre bottling. The 2013 Clos de la Baronne has beautiful vigor, punch and class that immediately impress.
Dominique Lafon is famous for his fanatical grape selection and biodynamic agriculture, and for the way he coaxes the most beautiful expressions of terroir out of each respective site. In 2013, this is amplified. The vintage is clearly a high-water mark for Lafon. With its gorgeous refinement, staggering finesse and purity, the 2013 Clos de la Baronne is Lafon at the top of his game.
