Back Up the Truck Barbaresco!
2007 G. Cortese Barbaresco Rabajà
"Grand Cru" Barbaresco Under $45!
"This is a terrific showing from Cortese." -Antonio Galloni
Today, we present a rarity - a sub-$45 classically-styled Barbaresco from a great site and vintage.
At $48.95 on bottles and $43.95 per bottle on 6-packs, Cortese's 07 Barbaresco Rabajà is without a doubt a back up the truck offering.
Barbaresco is one of the great wines of the world. There's an ageability, a finesse and a wild complexity of perfumes that's just incredible.
In many ways it's a shame that Barolo, its more masculine neighbor, gets the attention. Barbarescos can be every bit as complex and age-worthy. At their best, they possess a subtlety, a feminine elegance and grace that separates them from the burliness of Barolo.
When it comes to the best Crus of Barbaresco, Rabajà ranks right there at the top - right there with Asili and Santo Stefano. Bruno Giacosa has produced many legendary examples of Rabajà. They go for anywhere from $160-200+ per bottle.
Thankfully, Cortese's beautiful example of this Cru can be had for much less. I can't agree more with Galloni when he writes, "It’s impossible not to admire these genuine, sincere wines and their equally unpretentious prices."
But more importantly, pricing aside, Galloni is not shy about placing Cortese right there towards the top of the heap in Barbaresco.
Cortese is definitely one to watch. The wines have improved with each vintage, and recently things have begun to really take off.
Giuseppe Cortese really nailed it with his 2007 Barbaresco Rabajà. The 2007 vintage in Piedmont produced wines with an extra layer of red fruits along with good power and concentration. 2007 was a vintage that took some producers, like Cortese, to a whole new level.
The ripeness of 2007 also created wines that are more accessible in their youth than is usually the case. With some decanting and with hearty food, you can pull the cork on Cortese's 07 Rabajà right away. You should also save some to watch evolve over the next 10-20 years.
This is an elite Piedmont value. To magnify the value and to help you go deep, we've priced 6-packs super-sharply. We've bought as much as we can, but at these prices our supplies are unlikely to last. Please give us your ideal order and we'll try our best.

Antonio Galloni: "Gorgeous, knock-out aromas emerge from the 2007 Barbaresco Rabaja. Ripe, candied cherries, flowers and minerals emerge seamlessly in the glass, revealing gorgeous inner perfume. In 2007 the Rabaja possesses a touch more textural richness and body than is typically the case, but without abandoning what remains a classic, mid-weight style. This is a terrific showing from Cortese."
