This may be the best Pinot Noir deal that we've come across in over a decade.
As we've written many times before, we are constantly on the hunt for values in Pinot Noir. It's by far the most elusive category, and also the most requested one.
It's probably not surprising that we had to travel off-the-beaten-path to find one of the best deals we've ever stumbled across. Austria’s Thermenregion lies 20 minutes south of Vienna. Stadlmann is the region's standard bearer. Their Zierfandler Mandel-Höh is a cult white wine in Austria.
The same Cistercian monks that played a key role in Burgundy brought the same grapes to the Thermenregion and the clay limestone soils share some similarities to those found in Burgundy.
The 2019 Stadlmann Pinot Noir delivers spice-inflected punchy red fruits. There's plenty of underlying lift and minerality. One of the qualities that stands out is the wine's impression of honesty and detail. The warmth of the 2019 vintage seems to have given that wine more complexity and presence.
In short, this is the sort of Pinot value that we almost never encounter. We created the special 6-pack price to encourage you to go deep on this wine. We doubt we'll offer a Pinot of this quality at this price again anytime soon.
